Lumps on the back are conditions that can be experienced by anyone. Even though it is fairly common and is usually not caused by a dangerous medical condition, you must remain vigilant. Especially if the appearance of a lump in the back accompanied by other complaints that interfere.

Lumps on the back can vary in size, texture and shape. Usually this lump is not dangerous if the size is not large, or not accompanied by other complaints.

There are many things that cause the appearance of lumps in the back, ranging from infections, allergic reactions, skin disorders, to more serious diseases, such as cancer.

Causes of Back Lumps
Lumps on the back are not always dangerous. However, if the lump changes its appearance, rapidly enlarges, and causes pain, then you are advised to immediately examine the doctor.

Some conditions that can cause lumps on the back include:

Lipoma is a lump under the skin, which contains fat tissue. In addition to the back, lipomas can also grow on other body parts, such as the neck and shoulders. Lipoma develops very slowly and is harmless. The hallmark of this lump is that it feels soft to the touch, is colorless, and generally painless.
Lipoma lumps can be removed if they interfere with the appearance or cause pain around the body. How to eliminate it is by surgical removal of lipoma. In addition to surgery, liposuction procedures can also be performed to remove these fatty tissue tumors.
Seborrheic keratosis
Seborrheic keratosis looks like dark warts or spots on the skin. This lump is round and rough on the skin. The back, shoulders and chest are areas where normal siboroic kerosene appears. Seborrheic keratosis lumps are benign, but sometimes can resemble skin cancer. Therefore, a biopsy is needed to ensure that this lump is not cancer.
Generally, this lump does not feel painful and does not require special treatment. Removal of lumps is only done if irritation or disruption of appearance.
Dermatofibroma

A lump on the skin that usually appears on the legs, arms, and upper back. The size tends to be small, ranging from 0.5 to 1 cm. Dermatofibroma can be reddish, pink or brownish in color. This lump is not painful and usually does not interfere.
The doctor can eliminate it by small surgery or using a laser. But as long as the size is small and does not interfere, special care is not usually required.
Keratosis Pilaris

This type of lump on the back looks brown or red (similar to prickly heat) and feels rough when touched. In addition to the back, keratosis pilaris can also appear on the cheeks and buttocks.
Sometimes keratosis pilaris lumps can become inflamed, especially in pregnant women or people with dry skin. However, keratosis pilaris usually does not cause complaints and does not require medical treatment, unless the lump is felt to interfere with appearance. To get rid of it, you can take a bath with warm water or use a cream containing urea or lactic acid.
Epidermoid cyst

Epidermoid cysts are benign lumps that develop under the skin. These cysts usually appear due to keratin buildup, which is a natural protein found in skin cells.
In addition to arising as a lump in the back, epidermoid cysts can also appear on the chest, around the genitals, or other body areas. The hallmark of this epidermoid cyst is dark, round, and filled with white fluid like pus. When infected, epidermoid cysts will redden, expel pus, and feel painful to the touch.
The doctor will give antibiotics if the cyst has been infected. This type of cyst should be completely removed by surgery. Otherwise, epidermoid cysts can re-form.
No need to panic if you find a lump on your back, because most are not dangerous. However, immediately consult a doctor if a lump on your back feels painful, interferes with your appearance, or quickly enlarges and increases.
