Ukraine has opened a registration site for foreign soldiers who want to join the "international legion" to help the country resist Russian attacks.
As reported by Radio Free Europe, the Ukrainian presidential office announced the opening of the site on Saturday (5/3).
"Foreigners who wish to help Ukraine can look for detailed instructions, step by step, to join the fight against the (Russian) invaders on the site," the office said in a statement.
Zelensky did continue to emphasize that his country welcomes foreigners who want to join Ukrainian forces against Russia. He also decreed visa-free access to foreign volunteers that took effect on March 1.
The day after this decree came into effect, Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, revealed that more than 1,000 citizens had shown interest in taking part in the fighting, as of 2 March.
Not only that, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense also claimed that more than 66,000 men entered the country to join the war on Saturday (5/3).
However, Ukraine still barred its citizens from leaving the country for 18 to 60 years so they could participate.
On the other hand, participation in foreign conflicts is prohibited in many countries. The United Nations Mercenary Convention in 2001 also exhibits the training, use, financing and mercenary of soldiers.
