A senior US defense official stated that Russia had bombarded Ukraine with a total of 600 missiles since the start of the invasion until Sunday (6/3).
Based on US observations, heavy fighting is still taking place in Khersond and Mykolaiv. Meanwhile, Russian troops are still trying to encircle Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Mariupol.
The 64-kilometer convoy of Russian troops which since last week was reported to have lined up near the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, is still holding out.
However, it is not clear how far the military convoy was from Kyiv. Referring to reports last weekend, the convoy was already about 25 km from the center of Kyiv.
Meanwhile, fighting was also taking place in the skies of Ukraine. According to the US official, the two countries' air forces are still fighting over airspace.
"We believe the vast majority of Ukrainians in most parts of the country can still communicate, have internet and media access," the US official said.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has entered its twelfth day on Monday (7/3). Fighting is still going on in various corners of the city.
Not only attacking military installations and public sites, Russia also reportedly opened fire on civilians who wanted to evacuate themselves to avoid fighting.
Russian gunfire continued to rain on residents who were trying to evacuate at several points, including the city of Mariupol. The shootings continued despite Russia and Ukraine agreeing to a ceasefire in the city and Volnovkha.
The ceasefire agreement in the two cities was agreed on Saturday (5/3). Under the agreement, Russia should provide an opportunity for residents in the two cities to evacuate.
However, shortly after the two countries reached an agreement, Russia reportedly continued to attack the two cities so that the evacuation process of residents was hampered.
The war in Ukraine is getting hotter. So far, the United Nations has reported that 360 civilians have died as a result of Russian strikes, while the Ukrainian emergency services have claimed the death toll has reached 2,000.
