Health donate

A clean and bright face is the dream of many people. One way to get it is to use a face cream. But beforehand, recognize some types of harmful cream content, in order to avoid health risks.

The Indonesian Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) prohibits the circulation and use of cosmetic products sold without permission in Indonesia. These include dangerous creams that contain mercury, retinoic acid, hydroquinone, and resorcinol.

Usually cosmetic products that contain this dangerous ingredient are not listed on BPOM, have a pungent aroma, are shiny, if applied to the face the results are uneven, feel sticky, can cause facial skin irritation or red when exposed to sunlight.

Harmful Materials in Cosmetics and the Risks
Here are some dangerous ingredients that are usually found in cosmetics or beauty products for the face:

Mercury
Mercury can inhibit the formation of melanin, thus making the skin look brighter in a short time. That is why mercury is often used as a whitening cream or skin lightening ingredient.

If used continuously, mercury can cause rashes and discoloration, tremors, kidney damage, and psychological disorders, such as anxiety and insomnia.

In pregnant women and nursing mothers, mercury exposure can cause congenital abnormalities and brain development disorders in infants.

Retinoic acid
Retinoic acid can cleanse pores, deal with zits and acne scars, and reduce wrinkles.

However, retinoic acid risks causing the skin to become irritated, dry, sensitive to sunlight, discolored, swollen, or reddish.

Not only that, the fetus in the womb exposed to this substance is at risk of developing a congenital disorder, while children are at risk of developing abnormalities in the nervous, bone, muscle, joint and digestive systems.

That is why the use of products containing retinoic acid must be under medical supervision and through a doctor's prescription.

Hydroquinone
Hydroquinone is commonly used to brighten the skin and disguise black spots. It's just that using hydroquinone in facial creams can make the skin sensitive to sunlight.

Other side effects include skin stinging, redness, dryness

and cracked, blistered or blackened.

Hydroquinone also risks causing severe allergic reactions, such as headaches, rashes, itching, swelling of the face and throat, and difficulty breathing.

Resorcinol
Resorcinol can be used to treat pain and itching caused by insect bites, poisonous plants, burns, sunburn, and skin irritation.

Resorcinol is also commonly used as a medicine to treat skin diseases, such as eczema, warts, psoriasis, and calluses. But if used too much, resorcinol can cause headaches, fatigue, bluish skin, irregular heartbeat, convulsions, and shortness of breath.

To prevent the effects of the harmful cream content, be wise and careful in choosing and using over-the-counter cosmetics. Don't be easily tempted by beauty products that are sold at cheap prices. Make sure the cosmetic product you choose has a marketing permit from BPOM.

It is best to consult with your doctor before using facial creams or other beauty products. Your doctor will recommend a type of face cream that is suitable and safe for your skin.
