The war between Russia and Ukraine sparked fears in the auto industry over the worsening global semiconductor chip crisis.
Automotive News explains this because Russia is known to be one of the largest producers of the earth metal Palladium, which is used to manufacture semiconductor chips. Meanwhile, Ukraine is one of the largest producers and exporters of Neon Gas in the manufacture of semiconductor chips.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is predicted to worsen the global chip crisis because both countries are major contributors or key elements of semiconductor components.
The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has raised concerns that the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war will once again have a ripple effect on global auto supply chains.
FADA has changed its view of the industry to be 'negative' until the end of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
"Russia is one of the largest producers of rare earth metals especially Palladium, which is an essential metal for semiconductors. Ukraine on the other hand is one of the largest producers and exporters of Neon Gas, which is used in the manufacture of semiconductors," FADA quoted Auto Hindustan as saying".
"Due to the ongoing war, we are once again concerned about a semiconductor shortage which will create additional supply-side problems for PV," the association added.
On the other hand, with crude oil prices breaking through US$110, FADA thinks gasoline and diesel prices will not last too long.
The current crisis of semiconductor chips is experienced by many manufacturers in various countries due to the scarcity that was initially caused by the pandemic.
In Indonesia, this crisis was also experienced by many producers which resulted in delayed production so that sales volume was disrupted.
